Chairs These chairs, with their undulating arms, were crafted in the late 19th century from Asian elm wood lacquered in coral red over an earlier burgundy lacquer finish, which is visible on the lower parts of the legs. Originating from Shantou Prefecture in northern Guangdong Province, they exhibit Western influences in the construction of the backrest and crossbars, reflecting their proximity to Hong Kong. They are remarkably well-preserved.
