NAPOLEON III STYLE FRENCH SAUCE BOAT
NAPOLEON III STYLE FRENCH SAUCE BOAT
Material: Fine earthenware
Origin: Limoges, Haute-Vienne Department, France, c.1870
Measurements: 25 cm long x 9.5 cm wide x 12.5 cm high
This Napoleon III-style gravy boat was cast in fine earthenware around 1870 in Limoges, as evidenced by its radiant, immaculate white, which in turn testifies to its excellent state of preservation. The whimsical shapes of the handle, which begins with acanthus leaves and is ingeniously finished with a duck's head biting the rim of the container, find their formal counterpoint in the austerity of the foot, while the shape of the vessel itself recalls the graceful formal solutions of the Rococo period.
It can be used both as a decorative and functional piece on the table. Thanks to its refined design, it can also complement a kitchen with an antique feel, be part of a fine china collection, or be placed on a side table adorned with flowers, adding a touch of nostalgia to the space.
