FINISHING OF THE LATE BAROQUE FRAME OF NOTO

A splendid finial from a late Sicilian Baroque door frame, carved in walnut with silver leaf application. Possibly designed by Francesco Sortino, it comes from a palace in Noto, a paradigm of the hedonism and sumptuousness of the island's aristocracy, who maintained their feudal privileges intact since the Norman Conquest, while these privileges languished in the rest of Europe.
