Xylopia richardii is a currently protected tree endemic to the Mascarene Islands, known in French as 'bois de banane' (banana tree), although it doesn't produce bananas, but rather spicy fruits with a ginger-like aroma. Its wood is extremely rare, durable, and highly prized by luthiers for crafting musical instruments.
