Material: Granodiorite from Montagne Noire
Origin: Viscounty of Béziers, Occitania, 12th century
Measurements: 38 cm long x 36 cm wide x 21 cm high

Romanesque basin carved from granite from the southern end of the French Massif Central, originating from the vicinity of Béziers. Circular in plan and sculpted in high relief with a sequence of semicircular arches surrounding its perimeter, the heraldic symbol of the Trencavel viscountcy (1099-1209) is included between these arches.
