CHINESE ALTAR FOR ANCESTORS

Confucian doctrine seeks family and social harmony. The faithful set up an altar in their homes where they place offerings for their ancestors before they embark on their final journey to the Yellow Springs. This altar is a prime example of this type of altar. It was built during the Qing dynasty in the mid-19th century using exceptional elm wood from the Taihang Mountains and retains its original patina.
