The prestigious porcelain brand Noritake was founded in 1904 by Baron Ichizaemon Morimura IV, a visionary entrepreneur who, after visiting the Universal Exposition in Paris, understood the potential of Japanese craftsmanship if he could adapt his products to the tastes and needs of the American market. This fine porcelain coffee set with gold enamel displays an exotic syncretism, where emerging Western Art Deco trends merge with iconographic motifs from Japanese vernacular tradition and borders reminiscent of Japanese historicist styles from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
