LUANBAI CHINESE EARTHENWARE VASE
LUANBAI CHINESE EARTHENWARE VASE
Material: Glazed earthenware
Origin:
Jiangxi Province, Chinese Empire, circa 1750
Measurements: 19 cm ø x 23 cm high
Qingbai pottery was made with a white fired porcelain body and a glaze that produced a light blue-green tint. Originating in Jiangxi province, it was the first type of porcelain to be produced on a large scale.
From the 14th century onward, potters in Jingdezhen created a more durable ceramic body by adding more kaolin to the clay, calling it luanbai (white eggshell) because of its opaque glaze. This development served as a precedent for new clay mixtures and expanded its production to the rest of China and neighboring countries.
This exquisite vase is an archetypal piece from the end of this historical period; its formal harmony and virtuoso enameling give it a serene elegance and classic beauty.
It can be used in multiple ways to enhance the space: as a standalone decorative piece, with a flowering branch, or as part of a curated collection of antique and modern ceramics, merging history and contemporary art.
